A blog for Tamra Staiger

So I love to branch out and make foods that are slightly unconventional for the normal, college-aged american. I remember Tamra thinking this was amazing. well if you thought making fish and curried lamb were amazing well then i need to catch you up on the last month of food. When i was in the store a few months ago i thought i would hit the seafood isle but pick something other than a fish. So i bought a large bag of Mussels. I thought " oh boy this could be interesting." but much to my surprise, when these mussels were steamed with a homemade tomato sauce they were super delicious. the best part was the mussels are extremely small not like a huge oyster. My next adventure was making corned beef another way not just in the crock pot. No matter what way i cook it i still am not a fan of the fatty, salty meat. Then since Easter was just a week away i made sure to grab myself a nice leg of lamb. Now lamb just happens to be my favorite meat in the whole world. I should live in europe or the middle east where it is a common meat. i seasoned the lamb with a Scottish recipe and it was so delicious. It was tender and just the right size for the whole family to feast for Easter. But then i saw some yummy ground lamb at the store and snatched that right up. Last night I out did myself with Lamb meatballs, my own recipe, just throwing spices in left and right and making my own bread crumbs and man, on man it was great. I made a gravy to accompany the rice and meatballs and then sauteed up some mushrooms and leeks for the veggies and it was HEAVEN! My next feat is Venison. I have a large piece in the fridge thawing right now. i hope to make some venison steaks or kabobs and with the rest of the meat a Solamnic Stew. How Medieval!

I love how adventurous you are in your cooking! By 4 pm I'm dreading making any kind of dinner no matter how easy. You've inspired me to step out and step up and try some new ones!. I'll probably be the only one eating it because I'm the only non-picky eater in my little family.

Wow... and Jeremy will eat all of this? You should go to culinary school and get your own show on the Food Network. That would be fabulous!

truth be known that jeremy ate only two mussels. he can't "stomach" the idea fo eating a whole organism with brains and intestines and all. but i just tasted like a little clam. and second i can get the kids to eat it cuz it looks normal. meat looks like meat and meatballs, well even better. the stew might be hard for the girls to eat though. i would love to go to culinary school!

I feel so flattered! I post just for me!!!! This has NEVER happened to me before! You are a true inspiration--I have never even tried to eat any of this stuff, let alone cook it! Your girls are so lucky to grow up with such variety in their food exposure. I am truely amazed--I can barely keep up with my kids, let alone ponder making such exotic dishes! Are you still going to be in Provo in July? We are coming out for the month and I'd love to see you (and maybe get copies of a few of your favorite recipes to try!) To bad when I lived there we never started a recipe group--to make and try new things for each other! The other thing I love about you is how you celebrate holidays and cultures from around the world. You are my HERO!

You should move to NZ! Lamb is a massive industry here. In fact, they eat way more lamb than anything it seems. They don't really sell turkey here; lamb must have replaced the turkey.

we are planning on leaving sometime in the 2nd week of may. we hope to see everyone even you Lydia if you can make it back in time! but as of last night jeremy got an email for another job offer with lockheed and that job would take us to Houston to work on the Orion spaceshuttle. his dream job.

I'd take the Houston job so you could say you're with the rocket scientist. And the cost of living is cheaper than here a little! But you'll never have a good hair day. It's a toss up.

oh yes! come to houston--except way down there the bugs are huge and the humidity--you'll just have to escape it by visiting us here in Dallas!!!
